To access GICFE at home, you will need the La Salle database password.  This can be found on Blackbaud - Resources - Library.

Because your GICFE account will be unique to you (saved folders, etc.), you will also need to log into Gale using your La Salle Google Account.

When using the search box, GICFE will search all the Gale databases simultaneously.  Science users may want to search the Gale Science, Gale Environmental Studies and Gale High School separately if searching for Simulations and Case Studies. If you wish to search an individual database, here is a link to the La Salle database page.

Use Advanced Search if you want to control for certain content  types (reference, journal, newspaper, etc.) or content level.  You could also Filter your results after performing a regular search.

Thoughts and Tips:

• Bring specific content to your students.  Use a reference article to introduce a topic or a magazine, newspaper or journal article to cover current events, etc.  
   
• GICFE will search all the Gale Databases simultaneously.
   
• You can browse subject content by clicking the subject button on the top menu or you can search on your own using the search box. 
   
• Use advanced search to control for date, document type (reference, magazine, etc.), content level (level 3 blue - middle school, level 4 purple - high school, level 5 red - high school and above) and lexile measure.
   
• Remember, you must create a folder and add an article to it BEFORE you can begin clipping or annotating an article.   
   
• You can add links from outside content (websites) to your folders to keep your topics  and resources organized.
   
• You can use the clipping tool OR use annotations in an article, but NOT BOTH.

• Using the clipping tool to clip only the sections of an article you want your students to read.  Make sure you check off that you want clippings on in the student view, as it may default to clippings off.  
• 
• Use annotations to post guided questions for your students as they read the article and/or questions you want them to answer for an assignment.
• Preview how the article will look to students by clicking on the student view button found in the top right.  
   
• Use tags to help you organize your articles (homework, quiz, lesson plan, etc.) and you can create your own tags to suit your own needs.
• 
   
• You can collaborate with other teachers and share folders.  You can opt to just share a copy of the folder or you can opt to continue collaborating on the same folder.  
   
• You can send articles/assignments directly to Google Classroom or grab a link to share on Blackbaud. 
   
• GICFE also includes lesson plans.  
   
• If something isn't working correctly, double check that you are still logged in.
